Chapter 1: The Indian Guide.




SUMMARY


The story begins when the French want to win some British land in North America and
there was war between both armies.

The Dutch invaded the Mohicans´lands and they gave that people fire-water to drink.
Moreover,one day the white man killed one by one all the Mohicans except two of them.

One day,Cora and Alice who were Fort William Henry commander´s daughters went to
join him with the officer Duncan and an Indian "guide". Besides, David Gamut, who was a strange man, decided to join them. The Indian "guide" was not a real guide and that
was discovered by Hawk-eye, a white man friend of the Mohicans.



VOCABULARY



1. Fierce: violentas. It is an adjective.
- Violent, strong.
- There were fierce discussions while we were speaking about politics.

2. Forts: fuertes. It is a noun.
- A safe place where the soldiers lived when there were wars.
- During the First War World the soldiers were in fort.

3. Runner: mensajero. It is a noun.
- Person who brings messages from one place to another.
- The runner give me a letter which was written by my uncle, who lives in
England.

4. Stood: Stand. Plantarse/ estar de pie. It is a verb.
- We stood there, watching the parade.

5. Reinforcements: refuerzos. It is a noun.
- People who are sent to help other people in the army.
- There was a battle where the German army needed reinforcements.

6. Marched out: Marcharse. It is a verb.
- Leaving a place.
- My grandparents marched out Spain.

7. Wide: ancha. It is an adjective.
- Of large measure from one side to another.
- The table is one metre wide.

8. Tied: Tie. Sujetar. It is a verb.
- Joining something to another thing.
- Some lamps are tied to the roof.

9. Knee: rodilla. It is a noun.
- Which joins the two parts of the leg.
- My right knee hurts.

10. Stocking: Media. It is a noun.
- It is a piece of clothes wich put to cover our legs.
- Yesterday, when I went to the party, my stocking broke.

11. Scarf: pañuelo. It is a noun.
- It is a piece of clothes which we use to put around our neck.
- My mother has bought scarfs of all colours.

12. Major: Major. It is a noun.
- An army officer.
- I have never known a Major.

13. Path: camino. It is a noun.
- It is a way which you can walk to go to somewhere.
- I did not find the path to go back home.

14. Norrow: estrecho. It is an adjective.
- Of short measure from one side to another.
- Needles are norrow from side to side.

15. Trust: confiar. It is a verb.
- Believe somebody or something.
- It is so difficult to trust on person who has told some lies.

16. Bush: arbusto. It is a noun.
- Bushes are small trees.
- In my house´s garden there are a lot os bushes.

17. Step: Paso. It is a noun.
- Action to move the legs and feet to walf.
- My friend gave three steps and he fell dawn.

18. Edge: borde. It is a noun.
- The limit of something.
- The glass was on the edge of the table.
